HEREDITARY

Starting with a funeral Hereditary define which kind of horror movie is going to be, not the one who scares you based on horrible faces or thunderous sound effects, but instead darkness and psychological fear will be the atmosphere along the whole play. 

This movie tells us the history of a family, which appears to be another one and likely the rest, but they have some details that make it differs from the traditional ones; starting with the odd job that Annie Graham “the mother” has, she is a miniaturist, who lives with her husband Steve, their teenager son Peter, and Charlie their daughter.

 

As I said a funeral was the opening for the movie and it was from Annie’s mother. Two things to mark on, first Charlie and her grandmother were really closed, second the funeral was really secretive, in fact, the whole life of this woman was extremely private. 

Moving on, the members of the family start to experience unusual behaviors, but they attributed them to the mourning process; Charlie the little one began to get certain attraction to death, which is not frequent from someone in her age (13), also grandma’s grave was desecrated, besides these facts even the birds and weather starts to change and look a little bit creepier. 

 

Trying to overcome death, Peter went to a party, but his mother made him took Charlie with him. In the party Peter was hanging on with his pals while Charlie was just walking around, until she saw a cake, excited about it, she asked for a piece of it and from here a whole new story will be told.
On the other hand, Annie instead partying to overcome death, went to a support group looking for answers and a way to feel better. During this process, she met Joan, who gave her a way to communicate and solve her doubts around death. 

 

From this point of the picture everything is going to be a punch on the face, darkness and tension took over the whole plot, having you asking why and eager to know how is going to finish all.

For its rawness, darkness and the feeling that makes you think that it would happen to anyone is why I say this movie scares to the point of enjoyment.

Hardly recommended if you are a fan of cinema.
